About Mini
The Mini is a brand in itself rather than a car manufacturer. The original mini, released worldwide on 26 August 1959, was produced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC). From 1968 to 1986, British Leyland took over the brand, creating similar-looking vehicles and introducing the Mini Clubman. From 1986 to the year 2000, Rover Group took over control as manufacturers of the famous cars that the world had come to love.
Today, the Mini marque (brand) is owned by BMW through its previous ownership of Rover Group. By the end of 2000, production of the original Mini designs had ceased and BMW led up a new initiative to create a more up-to-date-looking vehicle that would appeal to a wide range of motorists. The new generation of Mini was introduced in 2001 with a hatchback/hardtop design. By 2005, BMW had introduced a Convertible/Cabrio design that increased the amount of models available.
In November 2006, a second generation of Mini was unveiled following on from the first Hardtop/Hatchback model that was sold as being a new platform incorporating various stylistic and engineering changes. Aside from the second convertible generation that was brought in by the end of 2009, BMW began launching other models including the Mini Countryman, Mini Coupé and the Mini Roadster. To this day, the majority of all Minis' sold worldwide, are manufactured in the United Kingdom.
