The alloy wheel, an attractive addition to any vehicle, was once considered a status symbol. However, they are much more than that. Many alloy wheels are lighter than standard steel wheels and make the car easier to manoeuvre. Whilst this can improve motoring speeds (fine for motorway driving), it may not make a lot of difference in city traffic. One conspicuous advantage they do offer is better heat conduction, which in turn can help to reduce the risk of brake failure during adverse weather.
Alloy wheels can be made from a mixture of metals including chrome, aluminium and magnesium.
